ALL Arkansans are deserving of equal and fair representation by their elected officials. Over the past year, Saline County has seen our Quorum Court demonize and "other" various marginalized groups prevalent in Saline County, including the LGBTQ+ community and people of color, simply for existing in public spaces.
I established and have led the Saline County Library Alliance in defense of our library's unwillingness to remove books featuring LGBTQ+/racial themes, and have worked to ensure that the Democratic Party of Saline County continues our mission to provide community support for those same goals. The time for hate should have long since passed, and as JP, I will continue that work to uplift and fight for those underrepresented groups in our community.
Did you know that Arkansas is the ONLY state in the US that provides no legal protection to renters whatsoever under state law? Most people don't.
Our county government has a unique opportunity to provide a minimum standard for rental properties that will provide renters with a minimum guarantee of quality of life AND provide property owners with a clear set of guidelines for what is needed to rent out spaces securely. By establishing these minimum habitability guarantees, Saline County can provide other counties with a roadmap for how to protect both renters and the owners of rental properties.
While this should go without saying, politics have no place in the public library. Our elected officials have grossly and wrongly accused library staff and patrons of heinous acts for simply acknowledging the existence of LGBTQ+ people and people of color. I will always fight to grant the library and its Board more independence, and to give the Board back the power that the County Judge and current JPs have stripped away from it.
